Day 8

Our last day at Glen Lake was another memorable one. We had a late breakfast of French Toast, bacon and fresh fruit (Thanks, Kerry!) before hitting the dock.

Sam and Sarah paddleboarded,
and Amy and I kayaked all the way across the lake to a little island with a small camp on it.  It's about a half a mile each way. The camp was in disrepair for years, but this year looks all cleaned up and functional. Kerry says  a local guy who owns a few properties uses it as a mancave. Since you can't get there any way but a boat, he's pretty secure and private. Kerry says there is power and water to it as well. Every man needs an island!

After some more swimming, we went out to do a few errands, and I took Sarah running again. We found a nice trail in the woods across the road that is mostly for cross country skiing, but it suited Sarah well.

Then we rested/swam until it was time to pick up my dad for dinner. We had planned to go to Massie's Restaurant in South Glens Falls, a venerable  and historic Italian American  place where my Grandma D used to take Amy and I as newlyweds. But as we were driving, Sarah discovered with her phone that the restaurant is closed on Mondays. So a quick change of plans was made.

Before dinner, we went to the cemetery where my mom's side of the family is buried. We found Gramma Diane's plot, which had just had the date she died added to it. On the other side of the cemetery is where the Emanuelson clan is, including my mom's parents Carl F and Phyllis, and my grandfather's brother and his wife. Good for the kids to know where they came from.

On to dinner, rescheduled at the Harvest Restaurant, a favorite from my high school years. They opened in 1972 and were the hottest place in town for a long time. Still very popular with the locals today, with virtually every table and the bar full at 7pm on a Monday. Great pasta dishes, hot sandwiches, and salads, Pizza is a specialty but we were pizzaed out from the last 2 nights.

Very strange coincidence- as we were getting menus, our waitress asked where we were from, and then said she had waited on us on our final vacation night a year ago when she worked at the Docksider Restaurant, two doors down from the Glenmoore! Strange she'd remember us, and stranger that the same person would wait on us on the same night a year apart in two different restaurants.

We took dad back to Chris' and saw him and Beth and their cats for a little bit, before saying goodbye for this visit. On the road at 8:30 tomorrow.

Our last visit to Martha's was bittersweet. Tonight's cone- banana/chocolate swirl with cookie crisp sprinkles. Amy and Sarah split  a brownie sundae, which looked awesome.

We got back to the lodge and had a small campfire under a full moon.

It will be hard to leave tomorrow after 3 days of perfect weather full of fun activities.
