Day 7
We had a very late night so I am posting yesterday's entry this morning.
We spent a great morning on Glen Lake, with perfect weather. 80 degrees and just a few clouds to keep it cool. Virtually no humidity.
Sam went paddleboarding and ended up going all the way across the lake and back. He's become very adventurous lately, and had been looking forward to this for a while.
Meanwhile Sarah took out a kayak and went most of the way over. I played shadow lifeguard and rode in Kerry's paddleboat to the middle of the lake. Sore legs tomorrow!
We returned to the dock and picked up Amy, and we all went down the shore in our water conveyances, past the Docksider restaurant. There are some nice homes on this lake too, including 2 that belonged to families of some of my best friends in the mid 70s. The families have long moved on but its fun to go by the places I spent so much time at. There are many newer camps and houses now. It looks like about half of them are year round and the others just for summer visits.
We swam some more and then Sarah wanted to go running. She is trying to build up her endurance for Cross Country, which will start as soon as we go back to school. I took her to the little neighborhood across the road from the Glenmoore, and found some nice flowers while she ran her 3 miles.
Next we headed out to do some errands in Queensbury. We visited cousin Laurie's grave, which is in very good condition thatnks to Fred and Bill's upkeep efforts. Fred had recently placed a shell there, since Laurie so loved the seashore. She would be 55 now, and is missed by us all.
On to lunch. We went to the New Way Lunch, a Glens Falls institution for about 60 years. Thy specialize in hot dogs (with the "works" means mustard, chopped onion, and a meat sauce made the same way for all these years). Sam and I got dogs,
and Amy and Sarah had soup and salad (!). Everyone enjoyed their lunch.
We toured around Queensbury and went by Chris and Beth's old house on Blackberry Lane where Jackson and William mostly grew up. It looks good, with a new garden in the front, new outbuildings around, and 4 vehicles (!) in the driveway.
We headed back to the Lake and swam/rested a while, then got ready for dinner.
Chris wanted us to go to a new place called Farmhouse Flatbread, which is mainly a pizza and wings joint. It's in the building where a "farm" restaurant called Sutton's Market used to be for many years. We met Chris, Beth, Jackson and William and my dad for an early dinner. The last time we were in that building, Sarah was almost 2. We were supposed to meet my mom and dad for lunch with some family friends, but Sarah pitched a fit and we had to leave.
No such episode this time. We got lots of pizzas, roasted brussels sprouts, salad, and great local beer from Lake Placid (well, I had beer). It was nice to have the whole family at the table all at once.
Some of us went to Martha's next (today's cone- raspberry/chocolate twist with chocolate sprinkles- the raspberry part makes it healthy). Fred, Bill and Mikayla joined us for a little bit, then everyone dispersed.
We drove a mile south to the Glen Drive-In Movies. There aren't too many drive-ins left, so we try to go when we are here. We saw the newest Spiderman movie, double billed with Aladdin. It got a little cold by 1 am when it was all over, but it was a fun experience for the kids.
So we'll sleep in this morning and have another Lake day.
