Day 6

We had a wonderful day of boating on Lake George with cousin Fred, Uncle Bill and my neice (actually first cousin once removed, but I'm on vacation and don't want to type all that) Mikayla. Fred put his big party boat in at the Million Dollar Beach at the south end of Lake George, which is just north of Glen Lake. Lake George is a stunning 32 mile long spring fed lake, with mountains surrounding it. The average depth is 70 feet, and some places are close to 200 feet deep!

We met them about 9 and headed out of the lower basin,

which is the busiest part. We passed dozens of multi-million dollar homes and camps and the went to Sandy Bay, where you can anchor in 3 feet of water and see the sandy floor under it. We hung out and played ball and floated around as it got busier and fuller in the Bay.

Eventually we decided to go tubing, and Sarah and Sam got pulled up the east coast of the lake on a big float. They bumped and slid behind the boat over the beautiful pristine water.
When we got hungry, Fred pulled up to a dock on the small state owned Phelps Island . Its actually or camping, but we unloaded and had a delightful picnic lunch that Fred had made and brought along.

Next was more tubing and sightseeing, including the Sagamore Hotel where brother Chris got married to Beth 20 or so years ago, and a wedding was being set up for later in the day.
We passed the Bixby Estate,

where I was assistant caretaker in 1974 and 1975, and went by many places I remember fondly as a youth on the lake when my dad had a boat there.

Finally we tubed back to the launch dock and got the boat on its trailer. We thanked Bill and Fred for the great day, and walked to the beautiful but busy beach for a quick swim.

We changed clothes and walked all the way to Lake George Village. we saw some sights and the had dinner at the Capri pizzeria. Great Sicilian thick crust pizza and Garlic Knots (rolls made of pizza dough, with marinara sauce.)

Earlier we saw a car/boat contraption in the water near the boat launch. Then, after dinner we saw the same vehicle parked in front of the restaurant. Very unusual!

We walked up the street to a new hotel that has been built on the site of one of my old haunts and favorite places in the Village, John Barleycorn's Pub. I played there many times in the 70s and 80s, and saw many great performers and bands. Now its a faux-country Marriott Inn, complete with fake antlers and factory made wooden railings resembling forest pine branches. progress I guess.

Next was on to Rileys for some souvenirs and tshirts, and then we met everybody at Martha's for ice cream. Today's cone- Coconut ice  cream with chocolate sprinkles- tastes like a Mounds bar! Fred and Bill and my dad got to talk with Chris and Beth. My cousin Jackson was also there, with his girlfriend Abby, so everybody had lots to talk about. The party broke up about 9:30 and we came home , worn out but relaxed after a reat day.
Tomorrow, a day at Glen Lake, paddleboarding and swimming, canoes, kayaks, rowboats, and a new peddleboat contraption they have acquired.
