Day 2
Our second day was much more active and enjoyable. Great food too!
We left Princeton WV about 9:30 and headed north. The Interstate route ended as the road turned into a divided highway through central WV. We crossed the New River gorge on the longest arch bridge (no supports under it) in the Western Hemisphere, and then visited the visitor center which had info about the area in its coal mining heyday. There were some wonderful views of the river and the bridge.
Sam and Sarah and I walked down the long staircase to an observation deck, where Amy joined us.
After we walked back up we packed up and got back on the road. Our next stop was for lunch. Sarah found a great "family restaurant" in Flatwoods WV. Wonderful food, all homemade and incredible pies too!
The "cup" of soup was the size of a serving bowl!
Next we drove on to Weston WV after determining we were not going to make it to the Trolley Museum near Pittsburgh before the closed at 4pm. We found the American Glass Museum there first,
which was actually pretty interesting and quite beautiful.
The friendly ladies there also recommended the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, so we went.
That place was a function hospital for the insane from 1858-1974. Sarah found out the Ghost Hunters had been there and declared it definitely haunted, so she really enjoyed touring it (We didn't see any ghosts, but I had a conversation with a resident no one else saw?????)
Finally we got back on the road and headed for Pittsburgh. We found the Incline Railway
and rode it up a bluff overlooking Pittsburgh with incredible views of the city.

We had a light dinner at the Grandview Overlook restaurant. Delicious but a little pricey, reflecting the stunning views of the city right from our table on the outdoor patio.
before heading off to our hotel near the airport.
Tomorrow its on to Niagara Falls!
